Application tips

Monday, 12 Sep, 2011

If you plan a career move in the coming months, it’s wise to be at your best in the application process.

If you're looking at jobs in media sales, media planning/buying, conference production, conference sponsorship; quantitative analysis, or any digital media role be aware that your CV will be one among many so remember these key factors in making it better:

  • Don't forget a CV is a sales document and the product it's selling is you.

  • It will need to be concise (two pages or less). Brevity is the soul of wit.

  • Respect the reader's time and come straight to the point – meaning don't put your current or latest job far down the CV. It's the first thing the reader's looking for;  don't make him or her scroll long to find it.

  • It'll need to include what you've actually achieved in your current and earlier positions, not just list your job description(s).

  • It must have no spelling or grammatical errors

There's a page on the Reilly People website: Five tips for a more effective CV. Read this and things like it before submitting your CV and work on making it easier for the reader and more efficient at selling you.
